The De Santa family is Michael De Santa's household in Grand Theft Auto V (2013): his wife Amanda, his son Jimmy and his daughter Tracey. They live in Los Santos under the new surname Michael took after faking his death. Their rows, the family's split and its later reunion run through Michael's story. Amanda and Michael return in GTA Online in 2025.

Who is Michael's family in GTA V?

Michael De Santa, one of the three leads of Grand Theft Auto V, shares a large house in Los Santos with his wife and two grown children. None of them seem to like each other much. Michael's retirement has given them a comfortable life, but the game shows a family that money has not fixed.

Their real surname is Townley. The GTA Wiki (gta.wiki) says the family once lived in a trailer in the Midwest. After Michael faked his death in 2004 as part of a secret deal with the FIB, they moved west and became the De Santas. Our North Yankton page covers the robbery that ended Michael's old life.

Who is Amanda De Santa?

Amanda is Michael's wife. The GTA Wiki puts her birth around 1970 and describes a marriage that has long since soured into constant arguments. She fills her days with tennis and yoga, and she has little patience for her husband or her children's choices. Her affairs drive the start of the plot. Wikipedia explains that Michael catches her with her tennis coach, chases him and damages a mansion, which leaves Michael with the debt that pulls him back into crime. The GTA Wiki names the coach as Kyle Chavis. Later she takes up with her yoga teacher, Fabien LaRouche, and in the mission "The Good Husband" she is arrested for shoplifting.

Who is Jimmy De Santa?

Jimmy is the younger child, born around 1993 according to the GTA Wiki. The same source quotes Dan Houser describing him as a lazy, whiny gamer who blames his father for everything. He does grow up a little over the story. Jimmy is the link between Michael and Franklin Clinton. He bought an SUV on a dodgy credit deal, and Franklin is sent to repossess it. Michael catches Franklin in the act, which is how the two meet. In the mission "Father/Son", Jimmy tries to sell the family yacht behind Michael's back, the buyers steal it instead, and Franklin helps rescue him during the chase.

Who is Tracey De Santa?

Tracey is the elder child, born around 1991 by the GTA Wiki's count. She is spoiled and dreams of fame, but she still cares about her father, especially while the family is apart.

Her best-known storyline involves the talent show Fame or Shame. The GTA Wiki says she auditions without telling her parents. Michael and Trevor crash the show after its host, Lazlow, joins in her routine, and they chase him out of the building. Tracey is furious that her father has ruined her chance. Michael later pulls her away from a party on a yacht near Del Perro Pier.

Why does Michael's family leave him?

Wikipedia says the family walks out because of Michael's criminal behaviour. The breaking point, according to the GTA Wiki, comes in the mission "Did Somebody Say Yoga?". Jimmy slips something into his father's drink, leaves him in the street and moves out with some of Michael's money. Amanda then leaves too, taking the children. Amanda moves in with Fabien, though she soon finds him just as self-absorbed as Michael.

The reunion starts with Jimmy. He apologises to his father and helps bring his mother and sister to a session with Michael's therapist, Dr. Friedlander. The family agrees to move back home. Wikipedia places the reconciliation after the crew's big heist on the Union Depository, which is covered on our GTA heists page.

What happens to the De Santa family at the end?

It depends on Franklin's final choice. In the canonical ending, where Michael survives, the GTA Wiki says he and Amanda are on better terms. If Franklin kills Michael, Amanda blames Franklin and sells the house. The full set of endings is explained on our Franklin Clinton page.

Are the De Santas in GTA Online?

Michael and Amanda appear in the GTA Online update A Safehouse in the Hills, which Wikipedia dates to 10 December 2025. The GTA Wiki says they now live as empty nesters. Amanda has dyed her hair blonde, Tracey has moved out, and Jimmy is finally leaving home after saving money from a job at an arcade. The couple visit the player's mansion, and Amanda wants to renovate their own house. Before that, Tracey only appeared in Online on television, in reruns of her Fame or Shame episode.

Who voices the De Santa family?

These credits come from the GTA Wiki. Michael himself is voiced by Ned Luke, as noted on our Michael De Santa page.
