Dodo (GTA)
The Dodo is a small propeller plane that first appeared in GTA III (2001), where its stubby wings made it barely able to fly. San Andreas turned it into a normal light aircraft. GTA V and GTA Online, from their 2014 re-release onwards, brought it back as a Mammoth seaplane, priced at $500,000.
What is the Dodo in GTA III?
In GTA III the Dodo was the only plane the player could take control of, and it came with clipped, stubby wings. It could lift off, but only just, and keeping it in the air took real skill. That made it one of the game's best-known oddities. The GTA Wiki explains that the game files actually class the Dodo as a car, which is why it handles like one on the ground and survives crashes so well.

Several Dodos can be found around Francis International Airport, one only after the mission Grand Theft Aero. Another is a reward at the Portland import/export garage. The GTA Wiki also notes a full-winged Dodo that flies high over the city in GTA III and Vice City but cannot be used.
How do you fly the Dodo in San Andreas?
In San Andreas the Dodo has full wings and flies like a normal small plane. The GTA Wiki lists it at Los Santos International Airport, around Las Venturas Airport and in the hangars of Easter Bay Airport in San Fierro, the latter unlocked after the mission Learning to Fly.
It is the star of the mission Freefall, where Carl Johnson flies a Dodo up behind a Shamal jet carrying Forelli hitmen, as a job for Salvatore Leone. The GTA Wiki also notes that a passenger can fire from the Dodo, one of only two planes in the game that allow it.
Is the Dodo in GTA V?
Yes. The PS4, Xbox One and PC releases of GTA V and GTA Online added it back, and it returns as a seaplane built by Mammoth. In story mode it stays locked until you complete the Sea Plane random event. After that, the GTA Wiki says it docks on Lake Vinewood near Franklin's house and on the Alamo Sea near Galilee, and can be bought from Elitás Travel for $500,000.
It can also be spawned with the cheat EXTINCT, or by dialling 1-999-3984628 on the in-game phone. The Elitás Travel description jokes that the plane can barely fly, a wink at its reputation from GTA III, according to the GTA Wiki. In Online the Dodo has been free on Elitás Travel since July 2021, and it carries products in a biker sell mission.
