The AK-47 is the series' classic automatic rifle. It appears by that name in GTA III, Advance, San Andreas and the two Stories games, but not in Vice City. From GTA IV onwards the same gun is called the Assault Rifle. It costs $3,000 to $4,200 in the 3D games and $1,400 in GTA V, where it is available from early on.

What is the AK-47 in GTA?

It is the automatic rifle most enemy gangs carry. In GTA III it is labelled AK47, the Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories HUDs call it just AK, and the HD games use the generic name Assault Rifle. Which games have the AK-47?

GTA Wiki lists GTA III, Advance, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. It is missing from Vice City, where the Ruger fills its slot. As the Assault Rifle it is in GTA IV and its episodes, Chinatown Wars, GTA V and GTA Online.

Where do you find the AK-47 in the 3D games?

In GTA III, the Newport Ammu-Nation sells it, it lies around Portland and Staunton Island, and 70 hidden packages leave one at each safehouse. The Colombian Cartel and the FBI use it against the player.

In San Andreas, GTA Wiki says the San Fierro Triads carry it, and one pickup sits on the roof of the Four Dragons Casino, reachable with a jetpack or helicopter. Vice City Stories also puts copies outside the safehouses once 50 red balloons have been popped.

How do you get the Assault Rifle in GTA IV and GTA V?

In GTA IV, Niko buys it from the underground gun shops or a gun van after Deconstruction for Beginners. In GTA V it is on sale at Ammu-Nation once Franklin and Lamar is complete, and it is also dropped by gang members and Merryweather guards. In GTA Online it unlocks at Rank 24, and a drum magazine holding 100 rounds was added later.

Is the AK-47 any good?

It changes by game. GTA Wiki says the GTA III version fires fast but hits softly and is outclassed by the M16. In San Andreas it hits harder and builds weapon skill quickly, though it holds 30 rounds against the M4's 50. In the HD games it is a cheap, reliable all-rounder that most players use until they can afford something better.
