Sniper Rifle
The sniper rifle has been in every 3D and HD Grand Theft Auto since GTA III (2001), apart from GTA Advance. It is a long-range, scoped rifle used in assassination missions. Prices run from $1,500 in Vice City to $10,000 in GTA III; in GTA V it costs $5,000 at Ammu-Nation after Nervous Ron.
What is the sniper rifle in GTA?
It is the series' long-range weapon. Aiming switches to a zoomed scope view, which lets the player hit targets far beyond pistol range. In the 3D games it works bolt-action style, so each shot is followed by a pause, and the player has to stand still to aim. The weapons hub covers the other weapon classes.

Where do you get the sniper rifle in the 3D games?
In GTA III, GTA Wiki lists a rooftop in Belleville Park, trees by Cochrane Dam and the Newport Ammu-Nation after Last Requests; the mission Bomb Da Base: Act II also hands one out. Vice City sells it at the North Point Mall store after Phnom Penh '86 and hides one in the hedge maze on Starfish Island.
San Andreas gives CJ a rifle for the mission Snail Trail and sells it after Pier 69, with extra rooftop pickups that need a jetpack or helicopter. Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories both stock it in their Ammu-Nation stores; in Chinatown Wars it is only used in missions and at the gun club.
How do you get the sniper rifle in GTA IV and GTA V?
In GTA IV, Niko can buy it from the underground gun shops after Luck of the Irish, with each extra magazine costing $800. A pickup in Northwood is the only one reachable early on.
In GTA V, it is given in the mission Nervous Ron and used again in By the Book and The Merryweather Heist. Afterwards Ammu-Nation sells it for $5,000, falling to $3,750 with gold range medals. GTA Wiki lists an Advanced Scope with longer zoom and a suppressor among the attachments; the suppressor makes it quiet at a small cost to damage and range.
How does it work in GTA Online?
In GTA Online the rifle unlocks at Rank 21 and costs $20,000. GTA Wiki notes it can also drop from police and military helicopters that are shot down.
