BF Injection
The BF Injection is an off-road buggy that first appeared in Grand Theft Auto III (2001). The 3D-era car copies the Meyers Manx, a kit car built on a Volkswagen Beetle by Bruce F. Meyers, which explains the BF in its name. In GTA V it returns as the BF Injection, now a battered Beetle-based Baja Bug.
What is the BF Injection?
The BF Injection is GTA's beach buggy: a light, open two-seater with fat tyres and the engine hanging out the back. It appeared in GTA III (2001), Vice City (2002), San Andreas (2004), GTA Advance (2004), Liberty City Stories (2005) and Vice City Stories (2006). In GTA V (2013) and GTA Online it came back simply as the Injection, built by a brand called BF, so the full name finally reads as maker and model.

Which games is the BF Injection in?
| Game | Year | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GTA III | 2001 | Not in traffic; found at set spots |
| Vice City | 2002 | Better suspension for sand |
| San Andreas | 2004 | Sharper 1990s buggy look |
| GTA Advance | 2004 | Closed top and doors |
| Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories | 2005 to 2006 | Used for Beach Patrol in VCS |
| GTA V and GTA Online | 2013 | Beetle-based Baja Bug |
What real car is the BF Injection based on?
The early games model it on a slightly enlarged Meyers Manx. Wikipedia describes the Manx as a small two-seat kit car designed by Californian engineer and surfer Bruce F. Meyers and sold by his company B. F. Meyers & Co. between 1964 and 1971, which is where the BF comes from. The GTA V version, says the GTA Wiki, is a split-window Volkswagen Beetle turned into a Baja Bug. Wikipedia explains that a Baja Bug is a Beetle modified for off-road use, often raced in desert events such as the Baja 1000.
How does the BF Injection drive?
In GTA III it is quick but tips over easily because of its stiff springs and high centre of gravity. Later 3D versions handle sand better, and the San Andreas car has a stronger engine and a low, rear-heavy build that keeps it on its wheels. In GTA V it is still very good off the road, but the GTA Wiki notes that its body deforms after a couple of hard crashes.
Where can you find the BF Injection?
In GTA III it does not drive around in traffic; it waits at fixed places around Liberty City. In Vice City, San Andreas and Vice City Stories it also appears in traffic and in parked spots. The official San Andreas strategy guide pointed players to the southern beach of Whetstone, or to winning the Dirt Track event. In GTA V it costs $16,000 on the in-game car website.
Notable missions
In GTA III a BF Injection sits in Joey's garage in the cutscene of "Drive Misty for Me". In San Andreas a unique black and red buggy carries CJ and Madd Dogg to OG Loc in "Cut Throat Business". In Vice City Stories it is the vehicle for the Beach Patrol side job (see side missions).
