GTA 5 cheats
GTA 5 cheats can be entered three ways: as a button combo on a controller, as a word typed into the PC console (open it with the ~ key), or as a 1-999 number dialled on the in-game phone. TURTLE gives full health and armour, TOOLUP gives weapons and LAWYERUP lowers your wanted level. Any cheat turns off trophies and achievements until you restart the game.
How do you enter cheats in GTA 5 on PC?
On PC, press the tilde key (~), usually found just under Esc on a US keyboard. A small text bar opens at the bottom of the screen. Type the cheat word, such as TURTLE, and press Enter. A message in the corner tells you the cheat is active. The same console works in the PC Enhanced version.
How do you enter cheats in GTA 5 on PS5 and PS4?
On PlayStation you press the buttons in order while you are playing, not in the pause menu. Press them at a steady pace, because a long gap between presses can cancel the code. GTABase notes one common mistake: if you leave the pause menu with Circle instead of Options, the next code may not register. The combos are the same on PS3, PS4 and PS5.
How do you enter cheats in GTA 5 on Xbox?
Xbox works the same way as PlayStation, with the buttons in the same positions: A for Cross, B for Circle, X for Square, Y for Triangle, LB and RB for L1 and R1, and LT and RT for L2 and R2. The Xbox column in the tables below is the PlayStation combo with those swaps made.
How do phone cheats work in GTA 5?
Bring up the phone, open the keypad and dial the number. Each number spells the PC word on a phone keypad, so 1-999-866-587 is TOOLUP. Phone cheats are only in the PS4, Xbox One and later console versions and on PC. GTABase and the GTA Wiki both say they are not available on PS3 or Xbox 360. Unlike in GTA IV, the phone does not keep a list of the codes you have used, so you dial again each time.

Three vehicles have phone and PC codes but no button combo: the Dodo seaplane (EXTINCT, 1-999-398-4628), the Duke O'Death (DEATHCAR, 1-999-3328-4227) and the Kraken submarine (BUBBLES, 1-999-282-2537). Each one has to be unlocked first by finishing a side activity, and they are not in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. See GTA vehicles for more about the cars themselves.
Do cheats disable trophies and achievements in GTA 5?
Yes, for the current session. Once you enter a cheat, the game stops awarding trophies and achievements until you quit and reload. A mission played with a cheat active can only earn a bronze medal. You are still allowed to save, and loading that save later brings achievements back. Cheats do not stop you reaching 100% completion. If you want to be safe, make a manual save in a different slot before you start.
Why does GTA 5 say Cheat Denied?
Some cheats are blocked during missions, in certain areas, or when they clash with another cheat that is already running. PAINKILLER, for example, will not work in a mission. A vehicle cheat can also be refused if there is no room to spawn the vehicle next to you.
Do GTA 5 cheats work in GTA Online?
No. The codes only work in story mode. Cheats in other GTA games use different systems, from button combos to typed words.
