GTA San Andreas cheats
In GTA San Andreas you type a cheat word on PC or press a button sequence on PS2 while playing. HESOYAM gives full health, armour and $250,000, LXGIWYL gives the first weapon set and ASNAEB clears your wanted level. Do not save with the pedestrian riot or hate cheats on, because they stay active for good on that save.
How do you enter cheats in GTA San Andreas?
On PC, just type the word on the keyboard while you are in control of CJ. There is no text box. If the code is right, the words "Cheat activated" appear on screen. On PS2 you press the buttons in order during play. Cheats do not work from the pause menu. Some codes switch off if you enter them again, and others last until you reload.
The PC codes look like random letters because the game checks a hash of what you type. The GTA Wiki notes that this means some other strings can trigger cheats by accident. Many cheats also have a longer English name, such as TURNDOWNTHEHEAT for ASNAEB.

There are also PC-only stat codes without a confirmed PS2 combo here: BAGUVIX for unlimited health, CVWKXAM for infinite lung capacity, WORSHIPME for maximum respect, HELLOLADIES for maximum sex appeal, BTCDBCB for maximum fat and KVGYZQK for a skinny CJ.
Is it safe to save with cheats on in San Andreas?
Mostly, but not always. The GTA Wiki warns that the pedestrian riot and "everyone hates you" cheats become permanent if you save while they are active, and they make some missions much harder. Keep a spare save made without cheats. Some codes also break particular missions: using HESOYAM can fail Just Business and End of the Line, and changing your wanted level during 555 WE TIP can fail it. On the remastered versions, using cheats can block achievements and trophies.
