GTA 6 file size and pre-load

Updated 5 November 2026 · Fan site. Not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.

As of 5 November 2026, Rockstar has not published an official GTA 6 download size for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Pre-load opens on 12 November 2026, a week before the 19 November release, for digital pre-orders. The boxed version, out the same day, holds a download code rather than a disc, so every copy needs the full download.

How big is the GTA 6 download?

Rockstar has not announced a file size. When we checked on 5 November 2026, neither Rockstar Support nor the Newswire gave a figure. Numbers shared online come from unofficial trackers, so we do not treat them as confirmed. We will add the size once Rockstar or the store listings show it.

When does the GTA 6 pre-load start?

From 12 November 2026. The Standard Edition listing includes a 7-day pre-load before the 19 November launch. Rockstar has not given an exact start hour. Pre-loaded files unlock when the game goes live in your region. See GTA 6 pre-order for editions and prices.

Is the size different on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?

Sizes often differ a little between consoles because each store packs files its own way. No PC version has been announced. More on GTA 6 platforms.

How much free space should you leave?

Plan for more than the final download. Consoles need room to unpack files, and a day one patch may follow. A sensible rule is to free up the listed size plus about a fifth again once the store shows it. The base PS5 and the Xbox Series S have the smallest drives, so owners of those may need to delete other games first.

Does the disc version need a download?

Yes. According to Rockstar's pre-order announcement, the boxed version contains a download code, not a disc. It reaches shops on 12 November 2026, the same day as the digital pre-load, so you can redeem the code and start downloading then.
