Kent Paul is a boastful English hustler and music manager who appears in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and San Andreas (2004). In 1986 he manages the band Love Fist and feeds Tommy Vercetti underworld gossip. By 1992 he is stranded in the San Andreas desert, until Carl Johnson rescues him and he ends up working for Madd Dogg. Danny Dyer voiced him.

Who is Kent Paul?

Kent Paul is a small-time wheeler-dealer from England who keeps bumping into the main characters of the 3D era. Wikipedia's article on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City describes him as a band manager with links to the city's criminal world, who helps Tommy during his investigation. That game came out on PlayStation 2 in North America on 29 October 2002. He returns in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, released on 26 October 2004.

GTA Wiki says he comes from Kent, in England, and that he claims to have moved to Vice City in 1982 at the age of 17. That would put his birth around 1965. He likes to talk himself up as a criminal genius and a music-industry player, but the wiki notes there is no sign of a real job or a criminal record behind the stories.

What does Kent Paul do in Vice City?

In 1986 Paul is usually found at the Malibu Club in Vice Point. GTA Wiki says he manages Love Fist, a Scottish heavy metal band, and has dealings with several biker gangs, although he has fallen out with "Big" Mitch Baker's club. His most useful moment for Tommy Vercetti comes early: he tips Tommy off that a man named Leo Teal played a part in the ambush at the start of the game.

He turns up across the story. GTA Wiki lists appearances in The Party, Back Alley Brawl and Death Row, and in the Love Fist missions such as Love Juice, Psycho Killer and Publicity Tour. He also calls Tommy after several missions with news or favours to ask, and his voice is heard in The Job and in calls after the finale.

The wiki describes his relationship with Tommy as cold at first. The two warm to each other after the Love Fist jobs, though Paul's habit of exaggerating everything never really goes away.

What is Kent Paul like?

Paul is relaxed and cocky in most scenes, then falls apart the moment things get dangerous. GTA Wiki points to Death Row, Psycho Killer and Don Peyote as missions where he panics. It also calls him a compulsive liar. His look changes between games: in Vice City he is a short man often compared to Tom Cruise, while in San Andreas he is taller and thinner, with orange hair.

By 1992 Paul has brought another English band, The Gurning Chimps, to San Andreas. According to GTA Wiki, the tour collapses and he is left stuck in the desert with just one member, Maccer. Carl "CJ" Johnson finds them in the mission Don Peyote and Paul then heads to Las Venturas to look up his old Vice City contact Ken Rosenberg.

Rosenberg is now managing Caligula's casino for three Mafia families, and Paul and Maccer get swept into his troubles. They appear in Intensive Care, The Meat Business and Freefall, where the two of them end up hanging outside Salvatore Leone's office, and in Saint Mark's Bistro. CJ eventually helps the group escape Salvatore and brings them to Los Santos.

There Paul finds his best job yet. GTA Wiki says he produces for the rapper Madd Dogg and works as a sound engineer, with Rosenberg handling the books. He is part of the closing scene at the Johnson house, and he also features in the later missions Vertical Bird, Cut Throat Business and End of the Line.

Who voices Kent Paul?

Paul is voiced by the English actor Danny Dyer. Wikipedia credits him in the Vice City cast, and GTA Wiki lists him for both games. GTA Wiki also notes a small nod in the later HD universe: a film star named Kent Paul has a star on the Vinewood Walk of Fame, a wink at the 3D-era character rather than the same man.
