Railgun
The Railgun is a futuristic heavy weapon in GTA V and GTA Online. It fires a single high-speed shot that can wreck an unarmoured car. In story mode it costs $250,000 at Ammu-Nation after the mission Minor Turbulence, or can be found for free in that mission's plane wreck. In Online it is sold from the Gun Van.
What is the Railgun in GTA?
The Railgun is a science-fiction heavy weapon that fires one bolt per shot. GTA Wiki gives it a range of 500 metres and says a single hit destroys an unarmoured vehicle. It has a nod to Back to the Future printed on its side, reading "1.21 gigawatts". It sits in the heavy weapons segment of the weapon wheel described in our weapons guide.

How do you unlock the Railgun in GTA V?
According to GTA Wiki, it was at first a reward for returning players of the enhanced edition of GTA V, which launched in November 2014. From 20 July 2021 it was opened up to everyone. It is sold at Ammu-Nation once the mission Minor Turbulence is done (see GTA V missions).

Can you get the Railgun in GTA Online?
Yes. GTA Wiki says it came to GTA Online with the Los Santos Drug Wars update and is sold from the Gun Van for $730,000 before discounts, when the van has it. Each round costs $1,000. The Online version is weaker: the shot travels much slower, it does less damage and it cannot lock on.
It also shows up in Online modes. GTA Wiki lists it in adversary modes such as Juggernaut and Power Mad, and some Merryweather guards carry one.
Railgun trivia
GTA Wiki notes that the TM-02 Khanjali tank in Online has two railguns fitted for show that cannot be fired. A bug made the story-mode Railgun vanish for a while after the Arena War update, until a later update fixed it.
