What’s new in GTA 6 compared with GTA 5?

Two leads instead of three. Kotaku reports Rockstar considered three or even four protagonists before settling on a Bonnie and Clyde-style duo. The world is bigger: see GTA 6 map and regions. Wikipedia says the game has over 600,000 NPC animations, against 55,000 in GTA 5, and that safehouses work like the camps in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Can you switch between Jason and Lucia?

Yes, according to previews. Kotaku and Vice report you can swap at almost any time outside some story moments, call your partner for help, or hand over the wheel and shoot while they drive. Their romance is optional: you can keep them friends, and ignoring texts hurts the relationship. More on the leads is on GTA 6 characters.

How does the wanted system work in GTA 6?

Previews describe a six-star system. Police only react when someone sees the crime or a camera catches it. Symbols under the wanted meter show what they know: your face, your outfit or your car. Vice reports you can lose them with a full outfit change, a new haircut, a mask or a new car. If both leads are involved, they can split up.

Does GTA 6 have first-person mode?

Not at launch, according to previews. Kotaku says this was confirmed to YouTuber Davy Jones, and that first-person view is only available “through certain weapons”. Vice notes that Rockstar has not officially confirmed it. Phone features are on GTA 6 phone and apps.

How long is GTA 6?

Rockstar has not given a length. Kotaku reports that producer Rob Nelson took about 80 hours to finish the game in February 2026, and Vice calls it “an estimated 80-hour story”. Your own time will depend on how much side content you do.
