GTA 6 online: what Rockstar has said about multiplayer

Rockstar has not announced an online mode for GTA 6. It says the game “features a single-player experience”, and that is what launches on 19 November 2026. Take-Two says it will keep supporting the current GTA Online after GTA 6 is out. Reports point to a future online service, but Rockstar has given no name, date or details.

Does GTA 6 have online multiplayer at launch?

No. Rockstar’s pre-order announcement says GTA VI “features a single-player experience”. IGN reported in June 2026 that Rockstar used the same words in a note to IGN and on store pages. Rockstar has not announced any multiplayer mode. What the single-player game includes is on GTA 6 features.

Will GTA Online shut down when GTA 6 comes out?

Take-Two says no. Zelnick said in February 2026 that he has “every reason to believe” GTA Online will keep being supported, and in August 2026 that its “cadence hasn’t really changed”. Rockstar is still updating it: The Kortz Center Heist came out on 14 July 2026, Wikipedia says.

When will GTA 6 Online come out?

There is no date, because Rockstar has not announced it. Twitch’s CEO said he expects multiplayer next year, but that is his view, not a Rockstar statement. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said Take-Two does not plan to talk about a new GTA Online soon. We will add a date only once Rockstar gives one. The single-player date is on GTA 6 release date.

Is there a new GTA Online for GTA 6?

Not officially. The strongest hint is Rockstar’s own tribunal filing, reported by GamesRadar+, which refers to “an unannounced online service”. In 2025 Zelnick pointed to NBA 2K Online, where Take-Two kept the first game running after a sequel: “We did not sunset Online 1,” he told IGN.

Does the GTA 6 pre-order give anything for GTA Online?

Yes. Rockstar says digital pre-orders include one free month of GTA+, its GTA Online membership. It also gives access to the GTA+ Games Library. Rockstar says there are no microtransactions in GTA 6 at launch, per Wikipedia. Editions and prices are on GTA 6 price and editions.
