The Combat Shotgun is a rapid-firing shotgun that first appeared in GTA Vice City (2002). It returns in San Andreas, both Stories games, GTA IV and its episodes, and GTA Online, where it was added back with the Cayo Perico Heist update. It is usually bought at Ammu-Nation once a story mission is done, or picked up at fixed spots.

What is the Combat Shotgun in GTA?

In the series, the Combat Shotgun is the faster, heavier cousin of the Pump Action Shotgun. It fires again without a slow pump between shots, which makes it a favourite for close fights against groups. It sits in the shotgun slot, so carrying it means giving up any other shotgun. Which GTA games have the Combat Shotgun?

GTA Wiki lists it in Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, GTA IV with Episodes from Liberty City, and GTA Online. It is not in GTA III. Its behaviour changes from game to game. In Vice City GTA Wiki describes it as fully automatic with a seven-shell load. The Stories games make it the hardest-hitting gun that is not automatic, able to drop a target in one blast at almost any distance. In GTA IV it holds ten shells per load.

Where do you get the Combat Shotgun?

Most players buy it. The table below gathers the shop prices GTA Wiki gives for each game, along with the mission that unlocks it in the store.

Free pickups exist too. In Vice City, Tommy Vercetti can find one at the Vercetti Estate and at the airport. In San Andreas, GTA Wiki places one at Area 69 after Black Project, another in the Four Dragons Casino once all fifty horseshoes are collected, and one inside Big Smoke's crack palace during End of the Line. The Stories games hide single copies on the map, and GTA IV scatters several around Liberty City, including at the airport.

How does the Combat Shotgun work in GTA Online?

In GTA Online it is a semi-automatic gun with a six-shell load that cannot be extended. Per GTA Wiki, it can take a flashlight and a suppressor and comes in several tints. Besides the store, it can be bought from the roaming Gun Van, and copies lie around Juan Strickler's compound on Cayo Perico during the heist.

Combat Shotgun trivia

GTA Wiki notes that the model used in Vice City came from assets made while Rockstar was building Manhunt. It also points out a small slip in GTA IV: the reload animation includes a pump motion even though the gun is meant to be self-loading, and the on-screen icon shows a different shotgun from the one in Niko's hands.
