Pump-Action Shotgun
The pump-action shotgun has been in every Grand Theft Auto game since GTA 2. It is called the Shotgun in the 3D games and the Pump Shotgun in GTA IV, Chinatown Wars, GTA V and GTA Online. It is usually one of the first heavy-hitting guns: $550 after Repossession in GTA V, $3,500 from rank 17 in Online.
What is the pump-action shotgun in GTA?
The pump shotgun is the series' basic shotgun: devastating up close, slow between shots and weak at range. GTA Wiki splits it into three pages, one for GTA 2, one for the 3D games and one for the HD-era Pump Shotgun, but notes it has been in every game since 1999. Where do you find a free shotgun?
The 3D games scatter pickups widely. GTA Wiki lists five in GTA III, among them Belleville Park and Cochrane Dam, and a copy at every safehouse after 40 hidden packages. In Vice City one waits in the stairwell of the Starfish Island mansion after Rub Out. Across the 3D era, GTA Wiki says, getting into a police car gives five shells.
San Andreas has pickups in Doherty, Fort Carson and inside several police stations, and police carry the gun from three stars upwards. CJ is handed one automatically in Reuniting the Families.
In GTA IV it is the LCPD's standard long gun, and GTA Wiki lists pickups in Dukes, Bohan, Algonquin and Alderney. At close range it kills with one hit to any part of the body, even through armour.
Where is the Pump Shotgun in GTA V?
In GTA V it unlocks at Ammu-Nation after Repossession, and a copy lies near the van in that mission. Trevor owns one from his first mission, and Michael gets one with the subtle approach to The Big Score. GTA Wiki also lists a trailer in Galilee and the crashed cargo plane in the Alamo Sea. Police, the army at Fort Zancudo and even shop clerks use it. Ammu-Nation sells a flashlight and a suppressor for it.
In GTA Online it is part of the kit for heists such as The Fleeca Job, and an upgraded Pump Shotgun Mk II was added later. GTA Wiki rates it as strong early on but soon outclassed by other shotguns.
Trivia
GTA Wiki notes that the player cannot run while holding the shotgun in GTA III, a limit lifted in Liberty City Stories. In Chinatown Wars it holds only one shell at a time.
