Dave Norton is an FIB agent in Grand Theft Auto V (2013). In 2004 he made a secret deal with Michael Townley that let Michael fake his death and start a new life as Michael De Santa. Under pressure from his boss Steve Haines, he later pulls Michael and his friends into government jobs. Julian Gamble voices him.

Who is Dave Norton?

Dave Norton is a federal agent in Grand Theft Auto V. Wikipedia lists him as an FIB agent who made a secret agreement with Michael De Santa to keep him hidden. He is crooked, but the GTA Wiki stresses that he is far less ruthless than his boss, Steve Haines, and in the end seems mostly worn out.

What was Dave Norton's deal with Michael?

The deal is the secret behind the whole story. The GTA Wiki explains that in 2004 Norton tracked Michael, then a bank robber named Michael Townley, to Ludendorff in North Yankton. Michael would give up his crew; in return Norton would stage his death and help him vanish, while the bust would boost Norton's career.

The plan did not go cleanly. In the robbery shown in the GTA V prologue, the GTA Wiki says Norton shot and killed Brad Snider by mistake, while Trevor Philips escaped. Norton then kept in touch with Michael, who moved to Los Santos under a new name. The GTA Wiki adds that Norton intercepted a letter Trevor sent to Brad and began replying in Brad's name to keep track of him.

What does Dave Norton do in GTA V?

When Haines learns about the arrangement, Norton is trapped too. Wikipedia says that after Michael breaks their agreement, Norton pushes him into working against the IAA under Haines's direction. The GTA Wiki links him to jobs such as The Paleto Score and The Bureau Raid.

Haines later sets up Michael and Norton at a meeting that turns into a shootout between the FIB, the IAA and Merryweather. Wikipedia says Trevor saves Norton in that fight. Afterwards, Norton and Haines go to Franklin Clinton and tell him that Trevor is a liability; the GTA Wiki says Norton argued against killing Michael but wanted Trevor gone.

What happens to Dave Norton at the end?

Wikipedia does not say what becomes of Norton. The GTA Wiki states that in the canonical ending, where Franklin spares both friends, Michael talks Trevor out of killing Norton. Norton later writes to Trevor to admit he wrote Brad's letters, and tells Michael he has taken over Haines's TV show. More on the choice is in our page on the endings of GTA V.

Julian Gamble voices Norton, according to Wikipedia. The GTA Wiki says he also performed the motion capture.
