The Rhino is the tank of the Grand Theft Auto series. It first appeared under that name in GTA III (2001), following the tanks of the 2D games, and turns up whenever the army joins a six-star chase. In GTA V it is called the Rhino Tank and can be stolen at Fort Zancudo or bought online; GTA Online sells it for $1,500,000.

What is the Rhino in GTA?

The Rhino is the series' main battle tank. The GTA Wiki traces its line back to the tanks of the top-down games, and in every 3D-era entry it is the army's answer to a six-star wanted level. It is slow, but its armour shrugs off most gunfire and its cannon wrecks cars in one shot. Simply driving into traffic also blows vehicles apart, which made it a fan favourite for causing chaos.

In the 3D games the tank oddly rolls on hidden wheels rather than tracks, which the GTA Wiki puts down to the limits of the engine. The army drivers in those games also rarely fire the main gun. That changed in the HD games, where soldiers use the cannon freely.

Which missions feature the Rhino?

In Vice City, the mission Sir, Yes Sir! asks Tommy Vercetti to take a tank from an army convoy and deliver it while a self-destruct timer counts down. In San Andreas, a Rhino rides past on a freight train during Green Goo, but it cannot be taken. In Liberty City Stories, Toni Cipriani steals one from a Yakuza warehouse in Shogun Showdown.

The best-known HD-era moment is The Paleto Score in GTA V. The GTA Wiki notes that the army flies tanks in by Cargobob helicopter to stop the crew, and that these Rhinos are made to shoot slower and miss more so the getaway stays possible. Tanks also appear in one of Trevor's rampages.

How much is the Rhino Tank in GTA V and Online?

In GTA V you can steal one at Fort Zancudo, though the base attacks you on sight, or buy one from the in-game Warstock Cache & Carry site for $3,000,000. The GTA Wiki gives it a 120 mm cannon and a weight of 60 tons, and notes that the only garage big enough to keep it is an aircraft hangar.

GTA Online sells the tank for $1,500,000 from the same site. It was once locked until rank 70; according to the GTA Wiki that limit went with the Cunning Stunts: Special Vehicle Circuit update. Online also built a game mode around it: in the Rhino Hunt adversary mode, players on light off-road vehicles try to destroy one or two tanks using sticky bombs.
