The Hunter is an attack helicopter modelled on the AH-64 Apache. It first appeared in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) at the Fort Baxter Air Base and has since featured in San Andreas, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. GTA Online added a two-seat version, the FH-1 Hunter, with the Smuggler's Run update.

What is the Hunter in GTA?

The Hunter is the series' classic military gunship, a one-seat helicopter that looks much like the Apache. Its rapid nose gun and rockets make it one of the most powerful vehicles of the 3D era, and the GTA Wiki rates it alongside the Hydra jet in San Andreas. It is also a famous completion reward, given to players who finish a game's hardest collecting or flying challenges.

How do you unlock the Hunter in Vice City?

In Vice City the Hunter appears at the Fort Baxter Air Base once you have finished the final mission, Keep Your Friends Close, or found all 100 hidden packages. The GTA Wiki warns that the base is guarded, so stealing it is risky without a police uniform. If you meet both conditions, a second Hunter waits on the helipad beside Lance Vance's house in Ocean Beach, which is much safer to reach.

How do you get the Hunter in San Andreas?

In San Andreas the Hunter is tied to the Pilot School at the Verdant Meadows airfield. Earn gold in every test and one spawns at the airstrip. Another appears at the Easter Basin naval station in San Fierro, but going in brings a five-star wanted level and enemy Hydras. The GTA Wiki notes that the Hunter and the Leviathan share one parking spot at Verdant Meadows, so only one spawns at a time. A cheat code can also spawn it; see GTA cheats.

The helicopter also shows up in story missions. Two Hunters attack during Up, Up and Away!, and the race Heli Hell hands the player one. The GTA Wiki notes that, since Heli Hell has no time limit, you can skip the course and fly the Hunter straight to your hangar to keep it.

Is the Hunter in the Stories games?

Yes. In Vice City Stories, Victor Vance steals a Hunter in the mission Over the Top and uses it to attack the Mendez building in Last Stand, where it is destroyed. After that mission, a Hunter at Escobar International Airport starts a side mission called Skywolf. In Liberty City Stories it appears only in a mission and is not a normal vehicle.

Is there a Hunter in GTA V or GTA Online?

Not in GTA V's story mode, where the GTA Wiki says it is only seen on in-game TV. GTA Online added the FH-1 Hunter with the Smuggler's Run update. Unlike the old one-seater, it carries a pilot and a gunner. It costs $4,123,000 on Warstock Cache & Carry, or $3,100,000 once you have completed 42 air freight cargo missions while owning a hangar.
