The Micro SMG is a small, fully automatic submachine gun in GTA IV, Chinatown Wars, GTA V and GTA Online. It is usually one of the first automatic guns the player gets: in GTA V it unlocks after Franklin and Lamar and costs $850, while GTA Online sells it for $3,750 from rank 5. It fires fast but hits lightly and has short range.

The Micro SMG is the compact machine gun of the HD era. It can be fired from a car, it arrives early in each story and it is cheap, which makes it the default drive-by gun for many players. Where do you get the Micro SMG in GTA IV?

There is no Ammu-Nation in GTA IV, so Niko Bellic buys it from the underground gun shops or more cheaply from Little Jacob's car. GTA Wiki lists about ten free pickups across Liberty City, including spots in Beechwood City, Steinway, Star Junction, The Exchange, Happiness Island and on a truck trailer in Alderney. In GTA IV it can be held in one hand or steadied with two for better aim. The Ballad of Gay Tony adds a gold-plated version, the Gold SMG.

How do you get it in Chinatown Wars?

In Chinatown Wars Huang Lee can order it from AmmuNation.net after Whack the Racers. GTA Wiki notes it also turns up in red dumpsters and is carried by every gang, though the ordinary SMG outclasses it.

Where is the Micro SMG in GTA V?

In GTA V it goes on sale at every Ammu-Nation after the opening Los Santos mission, Franklin and Lamar. GTA Wiki lists a few free sources: an underwater wreck near the NOOSE headquarters, Ballas killed by Franklin in The Long Stretch, and Lost MC members met by Trevor. Franklin is also handed one in The Jewel Store Job, whichever approach is chosen.

Ammu-Nation sells a flashlight, a scope, a suppressor and an extended 30-round clip for it. GTA Wiki notes the suppressor costs a little damage and range. In GTA Online each attachment unlocks at a later rank, from 6 to 9, and colour tints are earned through player kills or high ranks.

Is the Micro SMG any good?

It is a close-range tool. GTA Wiki gives the GTA V version 21 damage per shot, the lowest in its class, with heavy spread in third person and strong kick in first person. In GTA IV its range is said to be about the same as the pistol's. Its strengths are price, early access and use from a moving vehicle.
