The Da Nang Thang
The Da Nang Thang is a story mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004), given by Triad leader Wu Zi Mu in San Fierro. CJ flies out to a Da Nang Boys freighter in the bay, loses his guns when the helicopter is shot down, frees refugees held in a container and kills the gang's leader, the Snakehead. It pays $15,000 plus respect.
What is The Da Nang Thang in GTA San Andreas?
The Da Nang Thang is one of the missions CJ does for Wu Zi Mu, the blind leader of the Mountain Cloud Boys and an ally of the Triads in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It takes place in San Fierro and settles the long feud between Woozie's people and the Da Nang Boys, a Vietnamese gang that has been pushing into Chinatown. Who gives the mission and how does it start?
Carl Johnson arrives at Woozie's apartment just as Woozie is about to head out on business. A phone call from Little Lion, one of his men, changes the plan: the Da Nang Boys have sailed a freighter into the bay, and there are refugees shut inside a shipping container on board. Woozie sends CJ up to the roof, where Little Lion is waiting with a Maverick helicopter.
What happens on the freighter?
The opening is a short gunship run. CJ sits in the helicopter with a minigun that never runs dry and thins out the gang on deck. Then a gang member with a rocket launcher brings the helicopter down. Little Lion dies, and CJ ends up in the water with only a knife, because the crash strips his weapons.
From there the mission turns into a stealth job. CJ swims to the ship, climbs aboard and works his way down into the hull, where the game asks him to stay quiet for as long as he can. He deals with the guard watching the refugees, shoots the padlock off their container, then fights his way up to the bridge, which has to be cleared completely.
The last enemy is the Snakehead, the leader of the Da Nang Boys, who meets CJ for a one-on-one fight. Once he is dead, CJ goes back to the people he freed. They lower dinghies over the side and get away, and CJ is left on a dinghy of his own.

Why do players remember this mission?
It changes style three times in a few minutes: an aerial shooting gallery, a quiet infiltration with almost no gear, and then a melee duel. Losing the whole weapon collection is a shock for anyone who has spent the game building it up, and the knife-only stretch makes the ship feel more dangerous than most interiors in the game.
