The Sicilian Gambit is the last story mission of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (2005). Toni Cipriani and Salvatore Leone chase Sicilian underboss Massimo Torini, who has kidnapped the new mayor, and Toni kills him at the Portland Rock lighthouse. Salvatore pays $500,000 and makes Toni a caporegime.

What is the last mission in Liberty City Stories?

The final job in Liberty City Stories is The Sicilian Gambit, given by Salvatore Leone. It settles the fight with the Sicilian Mafia that runs through the late game. Wikipedia explains that the Sicilian underboss Massimo Torini had rigged the mayoral election and arranged Salvatore's arrest, then kidnapped the new mayor, Miles O'Donovan, so the charges against the don could not be dropped. What happens in The Sicilian Gambit?

Salvatore plans to visit the mayor and lean on him. When Toni and the don reach City Hall in Newport, the Sicilians have already taken O'Donovan, and Toni has to shoot his way through their men. At the docks Torini escapes by speedboat with the mayor.

A boat chase follows. gta.wiki says Toni rides with a minigun and uses it to destroy the boats and the helicopter sent to stop them. The trail ends at Portland Rock, where Toni fights up to the lighthouse and finds Torini holding the mayor at gunpoint. Torini tries to flee by helicopter, and Toni brings it down, killing him.

How does Liberty City Stories end?

With Torini dead, Salvatore takes O'Donovan home and makes it clear that the mayor now works for the Leones. The two men then meet Salvatore's uncle, the head of the Sicilian Mafia, at Momma's Restaurante. Wikipedia says the old man claims he knew nothing, drops the invasion and goes back to Sicily, leaving the Leones in charge of Liberty City. Salvatore promotes Toni to caporegime.

gta.wiki reads a line from the uncle about every dog having its day as a hint at Salvatore's fall, which comes three years later in Grand Theft Auto III with Sayonara Salvatore.

What is the reward for The Sicilian Gambit?

gta.wiki notes that a failed attempt restarts at the boat chase, so the City Hall fight does not have to be repeated.

Why is the mission called The Sicilian Gambit?

gta.wiki suggests the title plays on chess, where the Sicilian is a famous opening. It suits a finale built around a long political scheme by the Sicilian side. Wikipedia lists the PSP release of the game as 25 October 2005 in North America, with a PlayStation 2 version on 6 June 2006.
