GTA V collectibles

Grand Theft Auto V (2013) has several sets of collectibles. The big two are 50 spaceship parts, which Franklin gathers to unlock The Final Frontier and the Space Docker, and 50 letter scraps that solve a 1975 murder and unlock A Starlet in Vinewood. Other sets include 30 submarine pieces, 30 nuclear waste barrels worth $940,000 in total, 15 hidden packages and 50 stunt jumps.

What collectibles are in GTA V?

GTA V moved away from the plain hidden package hunts of the early 3D games. Most of its sets are tied to a Strangers and Freaks character, so finishing a set unlocks a mission rather than simply dropping weapons at a safehouse. The table below sums up the main ones, based on GTA Wiki's collectibles and set pages.

How many spaceship parts are there in GTA V?

There are 50. They belong to Omega, a stranger obsessed with aliens, found in the Grand Senora Desert, who appears after the mission Fame or Shame. Starting his mission Far Out makes the parts appear around the map. Single parts pay nothing. When all 50 are found, Omega's last mission, The Final Frontier, opens up; it rewards the Space Docker buggy plus an achievement, From Beyond the Stars. GTA Wiki notes that finishing Omega's strand is needed for 100% completion.

What do the letter scraps unlock?

The 50 letter scraps are torn pieces of a confession. They tell the story of Leonora Johnson, a young actress killed in 1975 later discovered dead at the Land Act Dam. The scraps appear after the mission Repossession and can be picked up by Michael, Franklin or Trevor, and Franklin's dog Chop can sniff out the nearest one. Collecting them all reveals the killer and unlocks A Starlet in Vinewood for Franklin. We leave the culprit out to avoid spoilers.

Submarine pieces and nuclear waste

Both sets live mostly underwater. The 30 submarine pieces become available when Michael starts Death at Sea for Abigail Mathers, after he purchases the Paleto Cove property Sonar Collections Dock. A sonar ping on the radar shows when a piece is close. Finding all of them unlocks What Lies Beneath. GTA Wiki says this set can be missed and does not count for 100%.

The 30 barrels of nuclear waste open after The Merryweather Heist and the purchase of the dock. The Trackify phone app points in their general direction. Each barrel pays $23,000, and the full set adds $250,000, for $940,000 in total according to GTA Wiki, plus the Waste Management achievement.

Hidden packages and stunt challenges

Classic hidden packages return in a small way: eleven lie on the seabed and four sit at the Altruist camp in Blaine County, unlocked after Trevor's shootout at the Altruist camp. They hold cash between $7,000 and $25,000. The rest of the list is about driving and flying: 50 stunt jumps, flying under 50 bridges and 15 Knife Flights, where you fly sideways between buildings.
