Los Santos Customs

Updated · Fan site. Not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.

Los Santos Customs is the vehicle modification chain of Grand Theft Auto V (2013) and GTA Online. Its four garages repair, respray and upgrade cars, and driving in clears your wanted level if the police have not seen you. Franklin can buy the Harmony branch, and in GTA Online the shop also buys cars from players.

What is Los Santos Customs?

Los Santos Customs, often shortened to LSC, is where players change how their vehicles look and drive in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It takes over the job that Pay 'n' Spray and the various tuning garages did in earlier games, and puts it all under one roof with a detailed menu.

What can you modify at Los Santos Customs?

The menu splits into looks and performance. On the visual side, GTA Wiki lists bumpers, exhausts, grilles, bonnets, horns, lights, number plates, paint, roll cages, roofs, side skirts, trim, wheels and window tints. Performance upgrades cover armour, brakes, engine, suspension, transmission and turbo, with spoilers also improving handling. Any vehicle can be repaired, though some cannot be modified at all.

For deeper lowrider and custom work, GTA Online added Benny's Original Motor Works with the Lowriders update, where cars such as the Faction, the Voodoo and the Moonbeam can be upgraded further.

Does Los Santos Customs clear your wanted level?

Yes. According to GTA Wiki, driving into a garage removes the player's wanted level, the same trick Pay 'n' Spray offered in older games. The catch is that the door stays shut if the police can see you as you arrive, so you need to break line of sight first.

Which missions use Los Santos Customs?

The shop plays a part in Father/Son, early in the story, and in the heist set-up Gauntlet. After the mission Nervous Ron, Franklin can buy the Harmony branch for $349,000. GTA Wiki says it earns $1,600 a week and makes upgrades at that one garage free for him. A Lifeinvader quirk also helps: following the shop's page on Lifeinvader gives a coupon for a free respray.

How does Los Santos Customs work in GTA Online?

In GTA Online the garages work the same way but also act as a buyer. GTA Wiki explains that once per in-game day you can sell a car you stole off the street, provided it is undamaged, for 10% of its retail value. Personal vehicles sell for 60% of what they cost new plus half the value of their upgrades. Street cars worth more than $100,000 cannot be sold unless bought legally. Modding cars is a big part of GTA Online's car culture; see GTA vehicles for the wider picture.
