Declasse is a fictional American car maker in the HD-era Grand Theft Auto games. The GTA Wiki says it is mainly based on Chevrolet, with some models drawn from Oldsmobile, AMC and Dodge. It first appeared in GTA IV (2008) and builds everyday saloons, vans, SUVs and classic muscle cars such as the Sabre Turbo and Tornado.

What is Declasse in GTA?

Declasse is the workhorse of the GTA road. Unlike the Italian supercar brands such as Grotti, it builds the cars that fill the streets: family saloons, vans, pickups, SUVs and police cars. Many service vehicles in GTA V, including police, sheriff and park ranger SUVs, are versions of the Declasse Granger.

The name is a joke. Déclassé is a French word for something that has dropped in social standing, so the brand is calling its own cars low-class. The GTA Wiki adds that the French word may also nod to Chevrolet's French roots.

Which real brand is Declasse based on?

According to the GTA Wiki, Declasse mostly parodies Chevrolet, though some models copy cars from Oldsmobile, AMC and Dodge. That mix makes it a broad stand-in for classic American carmaking, much as Vapid stands in for Ford and Bravado for Dodge.

What are the best-known Declasse cars?

The Sabre Turbo is the name with the longest history; it was a muscle car in the 3D-era games before Declasse took it over. The Stallion has a similar story. The GTA Wiki notes it was built by a brand called Classique in GTA IV and became a Declasse later. The Tornado and Burrito are common sights on the streets of Los Santos.
