What is High Noon in GTA San Andreas?

High Noon is the mission in which Carl Johnson finally turns on one of the corrupt C.R.A.S.H. officers who have been forcing him to work for them since the start of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It is set at Las Brujas, an empty desert town in Bone County, and gta.wiki says it opens after both Freefall and Misappropriation are done. Our GTA San Andreas missions list shows the surrounding jobs.

Who are the officers in High Noon?

C.R.A.S.H. is the anti-gang unit run by Frank Tenpenny. His partners are Eddie Pulaski and Jimmy Hernandez. In Misappropriation CJ takes a dossier that the officers want, and High Noon is the handover. Hernandez has been the uneasy member of the group, and in this mission Tenpenny accuses him of going to Internal Affairs.

What happens in the mission?

CJ waits in the ghost town until the officers drive up. He gives Pulaski the dossier and asks whether he is now free of them. Tenpenny instead knocks Hernandez down with a spade and tells CJ to dig a grave, making clear that the hole is meant for both men. Tenpenny then drives back to Los Santos and leaves Pulaski in charge.

While digging, CJ tries to turn Pulaski against his boss by warning that Tenpenny will get rid of him next. Hernandez comes round and goes for Pulaski, who shoots him dead. Pulaski then runs for his Buffalo and CJ follows in a Bandito, and the playable part is a chase over rough desert roads, with Pulaski taunting CJ about his family as they drive.

When the chase is over, the wounded Pulaski sits against his car. CJ asks if he has a last request, gets an insult in return, and finishes him. The mission fails if CJ dies, is arrested or lets Pulaski get away.

Why is High Noon a famous mission?

For most of the game the officers hold all the power over CJ, so this is the first time he gets back at one of them. The title and setting borrow from the Western showdown: a lawman and an outlaw meeting in an empty town at midday, except here the lawman is the villain. Gta.wiki makes the same link to the classic gunfight at noon. The scene also shows how far Tenpenny will go, which sets up the end of the story in Los Santos.
