Washington Beach

Washington Beach is a small neighbourhood on the beach island of Vice City, between Ocean Beach and Vice Point. It appears in Vice City (2002) and Vice City Stories (2006) and holds the main police station and Ken Rosenberg's law office. It is one of the few old district names Rockstar has used again in GTA VI material.

Where is Washington Beach in GTA Vice City?

Washington Beach is a narrow slice of the beach island in Vice City, only a few blocks long. Ocean Beach lies to the south and Vice Point to the north, while Leaf Links and Starfish Island are close by across the water. Because the beach side is the only part of the city open at the start of Vice City, players pass through it constantly in the early hours.

What is Washington Beach based on?

GTA Wiki's page on the 1980s district does not give a real model. Its page on the newer version says the name comes from Washington Avenue, one of the main roads through Miami Beach. The same page says the newer area seems to draw on the Mid-Beach part of Miami Beach, though that version is still unreleased.

What is in Washington Beach?

The most important building is the Washington Beach Police Station, which GTA Wiki also calls the headquarters of the Vice City police. In Vice City a nightstick waits in its locker room and tear gas behind the building. Close by is K. Rosenberg & Co., the office of the lawyer Ken Rosenberg, who works with Tommy Vercetti from the start of the story.

Other spots listed by GTA Wiki include Washington Mall, a small open-air shopping centre, Washington Beach Park, a public car park and hotels such as the Colon, the Deacon and the Moonlite. The headquarters of DBP Security and of the Spand Express courier firm are also here, as is the Teatro de Bell.

What pickups are in Washington Beach in Vice City?

For a small district it hides a fair amount. In the 1986 game, GTA Wiki lists a machete, a shotgun and an Uzi around the Washington Beach Apartments, body armour by the apartment pool, a health pickup on the roof of the Wok & Roll building and an adrenaline pill at Washington Mall. A police bribe sits in an alley north of DBP Security, which is handy when the police headquarters is only a block away.

Shops in 1986 include a coin laundry, a bakery, a shoe store called Star Shoes, a music shop named Galeria Musical and a hardware store, Bunch of Tools. GTA Wiki also notes that the district has its own police scanner audio.

Washington Beach in Vice City Stories (1984)

GTA Wiki says the district changed little between 1984 and 1986. The main differences are that Washington Mall has not been built yet in Vice City Stories, and that a fairground shared with Vice Point exists in 1984 but is gone by 1986. Many shop names differ too. The 1984 streets include Hotel Harrison, Hardcore Pawn and Verdi Groceries.

The 1984 version also has more to collect. GTA Wiki places a laser-sighted sniper rifle on the police station roof and an AK-47 on the roof of the Teatro de Bell, where a rampage also starts. Is Washington Beach in GTA 6?

Yes, by name. The Ultimate Edition text for GTA VI on the PlayStation Store describes a pink and blue Squalo boat "docked at Washington Beach". Rockstar has also named nearby Ocean Beach for the new game. GTA Wiki places the new Washington Beach in Vice Beach, part of Vice-Dale County in Leonida, but much of its detail comes from trailers and leaked material, so we only list it as reported. Is Washington Beach mentioned in other games?

Only in passing. GTA Wiki notes that an in-game website in GTA IV has two former pupils of a Washington Beach High School talking about their school days in the late 1980s.
