GTA Online businesses

Updated · Fan site. Not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.

Businesses are properties in GTA Online that make money over time. The first, CEO special cargo, arrived on 7 June 2016, after organisations were added in December 2015. Motorcycle club businesses, bunkers, hangars, nightclubs, the Agency, the Acid Lab and money-laundering fronts followed. Most work the same way: buy supplies, wait for product, then sell it.

What are businesses in GTA Online?

When GTA Online launched on 1 October 2013, players earned money from jobs such as missions and races, and spent it on homes, cars and weapons. Businesses changed that. They are properties that produce goods or cash in the background, which the player then has to sell or collect. Wikipedia's update history shows Rockstar adding a new kind almost every year from 2016, and running them became one of the main ways to play.

How do CEO and VIP organisations work?

Most businesses need the player to lead a group first. Wikipedia says Executives and Other Criminals (15 December 2015) let players form organisations, and GTA Wiki explains that this runs through the SecuroServ system: players register as a VIP or CEO from the Interaction Menu and can invite others as bodyguards. Further Adventures in Finance and Felony (7 June 2016) then added executive offices and cargo warehouses, the first businesses for organisations in Wikipedia's update list.

Special Cargo is the CEO's crate trade. GTA Wiki describes buying one to three crates from the office computer, collecting them in a source mission and storing them in a warehouse until there are enough to export. Rival players are told where the cargo is and can attack it. Import/Export (13 December 2016) added vehicle warehouses, where the CEO steals cars of different value tiers and later ships them.

What are the MC businesses?

Bikers (4 October 2016) brought motorcycle clubs, as Wikipedia records. Players buy a clubhouse as a base, and GTA Wiki says the club's laptop runs its illegal businesses. These are a document forgery office, a weed farm, a counterfeit cash factory, a meth lab and a cocaine lockup. Each needs supplies, turns them into product over time and pays out when the stock is sold. Malc, a character from The Lost and Damned, the game about The Lost MC, shows the player around the clubhouse on the first visit, GTA Wiki notes.

All dates in the table come from Wikipedia's update list. The Criminal Enterprises (26 July 2022) did not add a new business, but Wikipedia says it expanded warehouses, clubhouses, bunkers and nightclubs, and San Andreas Mercenaries (13 June 2023) expanded the hangar.

How does the bunker work?

Gunrunning added bunkers on 13 June 2017. Wikipedia says they are used to research, store and make illegal weapons. GTA Wiki adds that a bunker is bought from Maze Bank Foreclosures by a VIP, CEO or motorcycle club president, that research unlocks new weapon and vehicle upgrades, and that a Mobile Operations Center truck can be kept inside. Upgrades for equipment, staff and security raise the daily running fee.

How does the nightclub work?

After Hours (24 July 2018) let players open a nightclub, which Wikipedia says hides an underground area for smuggling. Wikipedia cites a Polygon report that the update brought back Gay Tony from The Ballad of Gay Tony. GTA Wiki describes Tony Prince as the club's co-manager. The club makes legal money that depends on its popularity, and real DJs can be booked as residents. Its basement warehouse is the clever part: technicians there slowly build up stock tied to the other businesses the player owns, such as the bunker or the MC businesses, so one sale can cover several of them.

What are the Agency and the Acid Lab?

The Contract (15 December 2021) added F. Clinton and Partner, which Wikipedia calls a celebrity solutions agency. Franklin Clinton runs it with the player, and GTA Wiki says Lamar Davis takes credit for the partnership and a hacker called Imani works at the desks. Security contracts appear on the office computer, and a longer story job involves Dr. Dre.

Los Santos Drug Wars (13 December 2022) added what Wikipedia calls a mobile drug lab stored at a warehouse known as The Freakshop. GTA Wiki names it the Acid Lab, a business inside a large six-wheeled truck that the player unlocks through a story arc. It follows the familiar loop of supplies, production and sales, and GTA Wiki notes it cannot be raided.

How much money do GTA Online businesses make?

It varies a lot, and Rockstar changes the numbers regularly through updates and weekly bonuses. For that reason we do not give income figures here. In general, businesses with upgrades produce faster or sell for more, sell missions in public sessions carry the risk of attack from other players, and owning several businesses lets the nightclub warehouse earn on top of them.
