Motorcycles have been part of Grand Theft Auto since Vice City (2002), the first 3D game to let players ride them; GTA 2, GTA III and GTA Advance have none. Later games added a bike skill and pedal bicycles (San Andreas), helmets (GTA IV), a whole biker expansion (The Lost and Damned) and, in GTA Online, the flying Oppressor Mk II.

Which GTA games have motorcycles?

Most of them, but not all. The GTA Wiki lists three games with no motorcycles at all: GTA 2, GTA III and GTA Advance. Wikipedia singles out bikes as one of the things Vice City added over its predecessor. The Liberty City Stories manual even offers an in-world excuse, claiming bikes were voted off Liberty City's streets in 1998, which would explain the gap in the two games set after it.

What is the best motorcycle in GTA San Andreas?

The GTA Wiki rates the NRG-500 as the strongest bike in its class in San Andreas, ahead on acceleration, cornering and braking. It is styled on Honda's NSR500 Grand Prix racer. There are several ways to earn one: gold medals in every Bike School test, the NRG-500 challenge at the Easter Basin docks in San Fierro, or two wins in the race tournaments. In the same game CJ has a bike skill that grows with riding and lowers the chance of being thrown off.

How do motorcycles work in GTA?

Bikes trade safety for agility. They squeeze through gaps and reach places cars cannot, but a hard collision launches the rider and leaves them open to gunfire. The GTA Wiki points out two more drawbacks: police can arrest a rider without opening a door, and from GTA IV onward officers can simply ram a rider off, which in GTA V often ends with the player wasted. Riders reverse by paddling with their feet, apart from on the quad bike.

What is special about The Lost and Damned?

The Lost and Damned (17 February 2009 on Xbox 360) is built around a motorcycle club. Wikipedia notes that Johnny Klebitz handles bikes better than other vehicles and is harder to knock off after small bumps. Gang wars only start while riding, fellow Lost MC members ride along and improve if they survive, and bike races hand out baseball bats for knocking rivals over. See its missions for the story.

Can you fly a motorcycle in GTA Online?

Yes. The original Oppressor glides, and the Oppressor Mk II from 2018 has no wheels at all and hovers permanently. GTA Online also lets riders fire some weapons from a bike, such as SMGs and the sawn-off shotgun, according to the GTA Wiki.
