Leonida Keys

Updated · Fan site. Not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.

The Leonida Keys are a tropical archipelago and one of six regions Rockstar has named in Grand Theft Auto VI's state of Leonida. Rockstar pitches them as a laid-back place with busy bars and risky waters, and the press compares them to the Florida Keys. Jason Duval and the smuggler Brian Heder both work there. The game is due on 19 November 2026.

What are the Leonida Keys in GTA 6?

The Leonida Keys are one of the six regions listed on Rockstar's site for Grand Theft Auto VI, next to Vice City, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Rockstar's short description, published with Trailer 2 on 6 May 2025 and reproduced by Press Start and Game Informer, paints a string of tropical islands where nobody dresses up, the bars are well stocked and life is easy rather than glamorous.

The same text has visitors lounging in deck chairs, then adds a warning: the islands sit beside some of the most beautiful and most dangerous waters in America. Game Informer's write-up of the screenshots released that day picked out retirees, casual boating and sea turtles. The quiet surface is the point. The danger comes from what moves across the water.

Who lives in the Leonida Keys?

Rockstar's character profiles tie two people to the Keys. Jason Duval, one of the two leads, is a former soldier who now works for local drug runners there. Brian Heder is an older smuggler from the region who runs a boat yard with his wife, Lori, and leaves the risky work to others. Jason's friend Cal Hampton listens in on Coast Guard radio traffic, which fits a story built around boats, though Rockstar does not say where Cal lives. The wider cast is on GTA 6 characters.

In Rockstar's profile, this is Jason's life before he meets Lucia Caminos, who changes his plans. How much of the story stays on the islands has not been shown.

What are the Leonida Keys based on?

Rockstar's own pages do not name a real place. Game Informer called the region an obvious parody of the Florida Keys, and Wikipedia, citing BBC News, Game Informer and GamesRadar+, lists the Florida Keys as its inspiration. According to Wikipedia, the real Keys are a chain of coral islands curving away from the southern tip of the Florida peninsula. Most of the inhabited ones are linked by the Overseas Highway, which runs for about 127 miles and ends at Key West. Rockstar has not said whether its islands have a road link of the same kind.

Did earlier GTA games have the Keys?

Not as a place you could visit. GTA Wiki records that the 1986 Vice City of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City had an off-map island group called Gator Keys, its own take on the Florida Keys. It survives only in a passing radio reference and in an unused phone call from the developer Avery Carrington to Tommy Vercetti, so it never made it onto the map. GTA VI is the first game in the series to offer a Keys-style region as playable ground. How the series handled Florida before is covered in Leonida.

Where are the Leonida Keys on the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar has listed its regions but has not published a full map, region borders or distances, and its Keys text does not explain how the islands connect to the mainland. Our GTA 6 map and regions page tracks what has been confirmed. Grand Theft Auto VI is due on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This article is based on pre-release material, and details may change in the finished game.
