Grassrivers

Grassrivers is the wetland region of Leonida in Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar describes it as a wild, ancient-feeling expanse of mangroves where alligators are the best-known residents but not the most dangerous ones. Press outlets say it is inspired by Florida's Everglades. GTA VI is due on 19 November 2026, and details may change before launch.

What is Grassrivers in GTA 6?

Grassrivers is one of the six regions Rockstar lists for Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Rockstar's region text, published on 6 May 2025 and reproduced by Press Start and Game Informer, calls it "the untamable jewel of Leonida's crown". It presents the area as a vast, primordial wetland where you can never be sure what lies under the surface.

The text names alligators as the main attraction, then says the mangroves hide deadlier predators and stranger discoveries. Rockstar does not spell out what those are. Game Informer, writing up the screenshots released the same day, suggested with a wink that the worst predators were probably the armed locals seen in Rockstar's images rather than any animal.

Is Grassrivers the Everglades?

Rockstar does not use the word. Wikipedia, citing BBC News, Game Informer and GamesRadar+, says Grassrivers is inspired by the Everglades, just as Vice City is inspired by Miami and the Leonida Keys by the Florida Keys.

According to Wikipedia, the real Everglades are a huge, seasonally flooded wetland in southern Florida, fed by a slow, broad flow of water. The writer Marjory Stoneman Douglas called the area a "River of Grass" in 1947. Mangroves line its coast, alligators shape its water holes, and a large part is protected as Everglades National Park. Rockstar has not explained where the name Grassrivers comes from.

What animals are in Grassrivers?

Rockstar's region text names only gators. In a September 2026 exclusive, Game Informer reported that Leonida as a whole will have more than 170 animal species across land, air and sea. Its list includes alligators, flamingos, manatees and pelicans, as well as invasive animals such as green iguanas and cane toads, and it says some rare animals can be tracked down. Game Informer did not say which species live in Grassrivers, so we do not assign them here. Confirmed features are collected on GTA 6 features.

Did Florida's wetlands appear in earlier GTA games?

Not as playable ground. Vice City (2002) and Vice City Stories (2006) kept players inside the city and its islands, as our Leonida article explains. GTA VI is the first game in the series to build a whole region out of Florida-style swamp.

Where is Grassrivers on the map?

Rockstar has not published a full map or region borders. Its Grassrivers text gives no location within the state. Our GTA 6 map and regions page tracks what is confirmed. Grand Theft Auto VI is due on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This article is based on pre-release material, and details may change in the finished game.
