Rockford Hills
Rockford Hills is the GTA V and GTA Online (2013) version of Beverly Hills, a rich district of mansions and designer shops in west Los Santos. Michael De Santa's family mansion is here, and so is the Vangelico jewellery store robbed in The Jewel Store Job. Its 1992 counterpart in GTA: San Andreas is the shopping district of Rodeo.
What is Rockford Hills based on?
Beverly Hills. GTA Wiki says the district copies its mansions and luxury shopping, with some elements of Century City, and that the name probably refers to Jim Rockford of the 1970s TV series The Rockford Files. Wikipedia notes that Beverly Hills is a separate city, completely surrounded by Los Angeles together with West Hollywood, and that its Rodeo Drive ranks among the most expensive shopping streets in the world. In the game, Rockford Hills is likewise an incorporated city inside the Los Santos area, like Del Perro and Davis.
GTA Wiki describes the north of the district as mostly homes, with Spanish-style mansions that nearly all have a gate, a pool and a tennis court, and the south as a shopping zone. It also contains the small neighbourhood of Burton and borders Vinewood to the east and the Vinewood Hills to the north.
What are the main landmarks in Rockford Hills?
According to GTA Wiki, City Hall stands in the centre of the district, opposite the Mount Zonah Medical Center, with fire and police stations nearby. Rockford Plaza is a mall known for overpriced clothes, and the Portola Drive area holds the high-end boutiques. The Richards Majestic film studio and Weazel Plaza are the tallest buildings. Other names include the Rockford Dorset Hotel, the Epsilon Center, the Lifeinvader office, the Ponsonbys and Didier Sachs fashion stores, a Fleeca bank branch and the Vangelico jewellery store.
Where is Michael's house in GTA V?
The De Santa residence is in the Portola Drive area of Rockford Hills, bounded by West Eclipse Boulevard, Portola Drive, Edwood Way and Rockford Drive. GTA Wiki says the Spanish Revival house draws mainly on two real Beverly Hills homes, on North Bedford Drive and North Alpine Drive. It has two floors with three bedrooms upstairs, a pool, a hot tub and a tennis court, and a garage for two cars and three motorbikes. It becomes Michael De Santa's safehouse after the mission Complications.
GTA Wiki says Michael got the house through his secret 2004 deal with FIB agent Dave Norton, after the robbery in North Yankton. The house is home to the De Santa family and is the starting point of many missions.
What happens at the De Santa house?
In Complications, Simeon Yetarian sends Franklin Clinton to take back the car of Michael's son Jimmy, and that is how Michael and Franklin meet. In Fame or Shame, Trevor Philips gets inside despite the security system. After Did Somebody Say Yoga?, the family moves out and the house slowly falls into a mess, until Reuniting the Family brings them home. In Meltdown, GTA Wiki says guards from Merryweather, sent by Devin Weston, attack the house while Michael and Jimmy are out; the family survives.
Which heists and missions happen in Rockford Hills?
The district's biggest job is The Jewel Store Job, the first heist of the story, planned by Lester Crest. After Casing the Jewel Store, Michael and Franklin rob Vangelico with a hired driver, gunman and hacker; GTA Wiki lists Packie McReary among the possible gunmen. In the smart approach Franklin drops BZ gas through a roof vent and knocks out everyone inside, while the loud approach storms the shop with guns. See GTA heists for the series' other robberies.
GTA Wiki also sets The Good Husband here, with Michael stepping in when his wife Amanda is held at Didier Sachs, and Breach of Contract, in which Josh Bernstein betrays Trevor to the police beside a mansion Trevor had burned. The subtle approach of The Big Score is linked to the district too.
Rockford Hills in GTA Online
In GTA Online the area hosts the repossession mission Rockford Roll, which targets a car parked at the Rockford Dorset Hotel, and a preparation mission for The Cayo Perico Heist at a mansion building site. Eclipse Towers, a 27-storey block that GTA Wiki bases on Sierra Towers in West Hollywood, is one of the best-known Online addresses, with eight units from $373,000 to $1,100,000, including three penthouse suites tied to Executives and Other Criminals (15 December 2015, per Wikipedia).
What was Rockford Hills called in GTA San Andreas?
GTA Wiki names Rodeo in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as the forerunner. It lies west of central Los Santos between Richman, Santa Maria Beach and Vinewood, and draws on Rodeo Drive, the Sunset Strip and Santa Monica. The game's manual calls it the costliest shopping area in San Andreas, with a copy of Rodeo Drive called Via Rodeo and stores such as Victim and Didier Sachs. No gang controls it and no mission takes place there, though CJ drives through it in High Stakes, Low-Rider, Snail Trail and Cut Throat Business.
